Tissue Culture Dwarf Hair Grass (Eleocharis acicularis) is one of the best carpeting plants for beginner aquascapers. Supplied in a lab-grown, pest-free cup, this version is perfect for creating a bright green, lawn-like effect without the risk of algae, snails, or other unwanted hitchhikers.

This hardy plant thrives in low-tech setups and spreads naturally across the substrate, especially when planted in small separated clumps. It’s ideal for nano tanks, shrimp setups, and Iwagumi-style aquascapes.

Lighting Requirements: 6–8 hours/day (good LED light recommended)
CO₂ Requirements: Not required
Care Level: Low maintenance
Fertiliser Needs: Benefits from aqua soil or root tablets
Growth Type: Carpet-forming grass
Format: Tissue culture cup – sterile, pest-free, algae-free
Potential Issues: May yellow or melt slightly when first establishing, then regrows strongly

Why Choose Tissue Culture Dwarf Hair Grass?

  • Beginner-Friendly: Easy to grow, no CO₂ required

  • Tissue Culture Clean: Free from algae, snails, and diseases

  • Perfect for Carpets: Spreads across the tank floor to create a natural lawn look

  • Low-Tech Compatible: Grows well in basic planted tanks with good light

  • Ideal for Aquascaping: Great for Iwagumi, shrimp tanks, and natural layouts

Care Tips:

  • Rinse and separate the cup into small clumps before planting

  • Plant shallowly in nutrient-rich substrate or with root tabs

  • Trim regularly to encourage horizontal runners and prevent tall growth

  • Provide consistent lighting to avoid early dieback

Supplied in sterile tissue culture cups by Duthie Aquatics — ideal for establishing a clean, healthy aquascape from the start.
