Corkscrew Vallisneria Care Tips (Avoiding Common Mistakes)
1. Don’t bury the crown
Plant the roots only — the crown (where roots meet leaves) must remain above the substrate to avoid rot.
2. Expect initial melt
Some dieback is normal after planting. Leave the roots undisturbed — new growth will often sprout within 1–3 weeks.
3. Use gentle flow
Strong filter output can tear the thin, curly leaves. Plant in low to medium flow areas of the tank.
4. Add root tabs
Though it doesn’t require CO₂, Corkscrew Val is a heavy root feeder. Aqua soil or root tablets will greatly improve growth and colour.
5. Lighting balance matters
Moderate light (4–6 hours/day) is ideal. Too much light without nutrients may cause algae in the leaves.
6. Warmth helps
Best grown in 22–26°C water. It will survive cooler temps but grow more slowly.
