Aquarium

When it comes to hobby aquariums, the idea of maintaining them can often be daunting. To upkeep the environment of an artificial aquatics system one has to understand some of the basics. A general rule of thumb is that when it comes to different sizes, larger tanks are easier to maintain and manage waste. The general advice depending on your available space, is that if you should try and accommodate as large a tank as possible. The walls should be thick enough for your purpose, and the longer the tank is the better. This gives your aquatic animals a bigger space to swim and it gives your tank a larger surface area for air exchange. Smaller tanks can be just as great, but will often require a little more active management. Glass tanks have remained traditional but many aquarists have opted for acrylic tanks as an alternative. Acrylic tanks may not have the same look, but they weigh less and are are not as likely to shatter. A large tank stocked with some quality products and animals will make your hobby much more enjoyable due to a more user friendly environment. Filtration System

One of the most important parts of any aquarium is its filtration system. This piece of equipment is critical in keeping the eco-system stable and your fish healthy. This is one aspect of the tank where you shouldn't cut corners. The filter type and size relates directly to the size of your tank. For large tanks canisters filters are most commonly used, and considered best practice. You must ensure that the filter will allow for a flow rate that will process all water four times per hour. This is calculated using flow rate per hour. A tank which is 20 liters should have a flow rate of at least 80 liters per hour.
