Crested Java Fern

Crested Java Fern is a slow-growing rhizome aquarium plant recognised by its distinctive branched, crested leaf tips. It is a useful choice for low-tech aquariums and for attaching to driftwood or rock.

• Lighting: Low to moderate; the existing care recommendation is approximately 4–6 hours daily, depending on light intensity.
• CO₂: Not required.
• Care: Beginner-friendly and slow-growing; liquid fertiliser may help where nutrients are limited.
• Placement: Midground or background, depending on the size of the aquarium.
• Potential size: Can reach approximately 30 cm under suitable conditions.
• Planting: Attach the plant to rock or driftwood using thread or aquarium-safe glue. Keep the thick rhizome exposed; burying it can cause rot.

Allow room for the leaves to develop and remove damaged older growth as needed. Suitable for many community aquariums, although herbivorous or disruptive fish may still damage the plant.
